This book is a culmination of over 50 years of learning, playing, and teaching the game of pool. Ronald L. Schneider lives in Huntington Beach, California. Table of Contents Chapter One, the Stroke Builders This is where it all starts. It is by far the most important chapter in the boob. Without a good solid stroke, you will never excel in your game. Discussion of the fundamentals of a good stroke and various illustrated practice routines will help you develop a smooth, accurate, and enviable stroke. Having a pool table or access to a pool table is a must to practice and develop the "muscle memory" necessary for a good stroke. Chapter Two, The Practice Shot This chapter tabes the stroke builders to the next level. Each practice shot will give you immediate feedback and develop "memory routines" to be used in game situations. Most of these practice shots come up time and time again and must be executed well to improve your winning percentage. Chapter Three/ Safety Play Safeties are an overlooked and important part of the game. Knowing, and most importantly practicing these basic safeties is a must when playing any competitive pool game. Executing a good safety is sometimes better than making the shot. This is especially true if your opponent does not know the kicking systems illustrated in Chapter 4. Chapter Four, The Kicking Game The worst thing you can do in 9 ball is give up "ball-in-hand". This chapter will discuss simple 1,2, 3, and even 4 rail kicking systems that you don't need a degree in higher math or a calculator to figure out. 1 call this the "WORLD OF PARALLELS". These simple systems will have you not just trying to kick to hit a hidden ball, but you will now start to even make some of these shots. This is the largest chapter in the book with 50 pages of illustrated diagrams. Chapter Five/ Banking Here I will discuss and illustrate at length why banking is so difficult. But, after learning the "WORLD OF PARALLELS" in Chapter 4, banking now becomes much easier. Now banking simply becomes recognizing the angle and proper stroking of the cue ball. Chapter Six/ Combination Like banks, combinations are also very difficult. Discussion and illustration of 5 different types of systems will make shooting these a little easier. Do you have a system or how many systems do you know? Chapter Seven / Caroms Here the two most important things to know are: 1. Actually recognizing the carom shot 2. Understanding the "tangent line" Again there will be discussion and illustration of several types of systems to help improve your pocketing skills. Chapter Eight/ The Nine Ball Break Generally speaking when the professionals play, the one breaking the best usually wins. Here I will discuss the key points for a good break and also illustrate some legal racking techniques which can give you a slight edge. If your break is weak or if you scratch a lot, this chapter is a must. Chapter Nine/ The Masse Shot When all your options flumping, kicking, etc,) are blocked, sometimes you just have to bend the cue ball around another object ball. With a little instruction and practice, you can easily add the masse shot to your arsenal. Chapter Ten/ the Jump Shot If you are going to really improve your game, you must have a jump shot in your repertoire. With the right equipment and instruction, this area of the game is not as difficult as it looks. Chapter Eleven/ Position Play When a novice watches a professional run a rack, the normal reaction is to say, "Boy that was an easy rack?he never had a tough shot!" He does not understand how difficult it is to move "whitey" around the table to an exact location. The keys to this chapter are the understanding of the tangent line and the english and speed needed on the cue ball. The illustrated drills discussed in this chapter will show you how to gain better control of the cue ball. Chapter Twelve / Specialty Shot These are not trick shots but shots that you must be able to execute if you are going to play the game at a higher level. These illustrated shots come up more often than you think. Most require very little practice but only the knowledge of recognizing and executing the shot. Chapter Thirteen / Deflection, Squirt, Cling, Throw and Skid If you are going to use english, you must understand these problem areas of the game and how to compensate. Do you know why the professionals have far fewer problems with this area than the average pool player? This chapter fully explains these principles.
